Kampala, Uganda – April 2025
On April 15th, 2025, KijaniBox held its first Stakeholder Validation Workshop at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala, Uganda. The event gathered diverse stakeholders to review findings from a recent user survey and collaborate on advancing green energy solutions in Uganda.
Biogas Solutions Uganda Ltd (BSUL) and the KijaniBox Consortium organized the workshop to further develop a biogas-powered cooling system for Uganda’s agriculture and market sectors.
Attendees included dairy farmers, agro-processing representatives, municipal market officials, and government representatives from various ministries and organizations including Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), CARE International in Uganda
During the workshop, participants engaged with presentations addressing dairy spoilage issues, organic waste utilization, renewable energy adoption by agro-processors, and converting KijaniBox byproducts into biofertilizer. Attendees also learned about KijaniBox’s operational model and benefits, with a technology gallery demonstrating the innovation.
The presentation of user survey results highlighted the urgent need for decentralized, renewable-powered cooling solutions across value chains.
A panel discussion moderated by Gideon M. brought together representatives from MEMD, MAAIF, KCCA, and end-user groups to discuss economic feasibility, biogas adoption challenges, scaling strategies, and policy recommendations for waste-to-energy frameworks.
The workshop concluded with a feedback session and closing remarks from KCCA. Participants showed enthusiasm for the project’s potential and agreed on the importance of continued collaboration to refine, pilot, and scale the KijaniBox solution throughout Uganda.
This event marks significant progress in aligning local needs with sustainable technologies to address waste management and post-harvest food loss while supporting Uganda’s clean energy transition.
